@mansr yes but most of those have been replaced by automation. And when you think about that - that as humans, we automated out lighthouse keepers before city sewerage maintenance - we really need to rethink our priorities. @fesshole

It's a much simpler task and so needs way less engineering to automate.

It's a much smaller system that can be largely replaced instead of hacked on to add shit that wasn't anticipated.

There are clearly very practical reasons why lighthouses are largely maintenance free and sewer systems are not. This isn't something some cabal of assholes decided just to see poor people wallow in shit or whatever.
