One new Catodon feature which I find really handy: When you view a remote profile that shows no posts (because nobody on your server follows them), you get a refresh button which fetches their last posts, so you can get an idea of what they're about. This is an attempt to address one of fedi's pain points and make federated life easier.

This is excellent feature, and fetching the most recent posts will be especially handy for profiles with no pinned posts. If I recall correctly, pinned posts are already being fetched together with the profile info, but many profiles have no pinned posts (especially Lemmy profiles, as there's no way for Lemmy users to pin specific posts/comments to their profiles).

Now, something probably unrelated to this (although fetching remote posts has also to do with visibility settings) I noticed earlier today upon checking the local/instance feed: are feeds supposed to be listing private posts (not sure what is being incorrectly shown to me are DMs or follower-only posts)? Although it's correctly not showing their content, shouldn't private posts be fully hidden from feeds for those not among the recipients (e.g. me; because I'm not the intended recipient, I shouldn't be even supposed to know there were private/follower-only posts)?

@dsilverz these are not DMs (I did not exchange any DMs with that user) - this looks like the "Make past posts private when viewed on this server" (it looks like this because the user was suspended). But there is something weird going on with the posts of that user (their profile fails to load them). Perhaps something to do with the fact that they imported over 55000 posts. It is something I've been investigating for the last couple of hours.
