I’m just glad Mapy.com (local service to where I’m from) also shows proper names of Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario. It’s not Foss but you’re at least supporting neither google nor apple. And their map backgrounds are IMO the best out there, closest to “real paper map”.

Mapy is really good, it’s not OSS but an European company at least
