Nobody needs to hear this, but…

The "star" key on a telephone is actually represented by a sextile ⚹ according to ITU recommendation E.161

Many smartphone dialers get this wrong and use an asterisk *, full-width asterisk ＊, or asterisk operator ∗

@LilahTovMoon I kind of wonder if that's actually in an ISO standard like ISO 7000 ("Graphical symbols for use on equipment - Registered symbols").

(And I don't want to pay up my nose to get a copy of ISO 7000 and check if telephony symbols are there. I know e.g. the automotive dashboard symbols are there.)

@umbraroze It's from the ITU so you can read it for free: https://www.itu.int/rec/T-REC-E.161/en

"Arrangement of digits, letters and symbols on telephones and other devices that can be used for gaining access to a telephone network"
