Every program that downloads from the internet sends a user-agent header to the server, normally it's program name, version & a bit more text.

A server could use that to detect curl & send a malicious install script that's different from if you downloaded it with Firefox

Seeing another round of “it turns out that WFH has serious downsides because employees get all their social interaction at work and are getting unhealthy without that” stories and my first thought is “maybe we should fix that bit where people are forced to rely on their jobs for social interaction” rather than “let’s go back to the office”
