@silverpill are there plans to be able to limit who can post to groups and visibility (group only, instance only, stuff like that) just to have like an internal group for the instance for example. and pinned posts to groups. what do you see groups functioning as, what is your vision? cuz it's just a word groups so i think different people would want to work it differently and i wonder what you want it to be like in mitra and as a FEP or whatever

@meso Yes, I plan to implement private groups where only members can create posts. One idea I had is a group for mitra admins where we can discuss new features. Idk what else, this is a building block, maybe people will create alt frontends that work as forums or chat apps.
a FEP
I am writing one about groups:

@meso There are many interesting apps being built that are based on federated groups, I want to make mitra compatible with them. For example this matrix bridge: https://github.com/Haven-Organization/matrix-appservice-activitypub

@silverpill @meso oh that's interesting, I thought they're were only implementing this with ATProto

@koimoa @meso Private groups? Some fedi apps have had them for a long time (e.g. Hubzilla), but the work on interoperable solutions didn't start until recently, when support for private communities was added to Lemmy.
Here's another cool project: https://github.com/maddyunderstars/shoot

@silverpill @meso seems pretty cool, but I rather use my own instance than sign up for another one. Maybe if it gets to that point, but I'll keep my eye on it

@silverpill i like how it works in chanfe because it's kinda like boards. you have certain topics and themes. but it can also be way more things than that because you could have groups for shitposting or groups for movie night clubs, or organizing stuff communitywide like gamin'

@meso Yeah chanfe is a good example. We didn't plan it in advance, I noticed that @harblinger added /twkn/ and thought, what if we use the groups feature for custom boards
Replying to @silverpill@mitra.social
@silverpill @meso @harblinger I think Mitra could provide an entry point for listing the groups you’ve joined, while Chanfe could add them to the board list.

@caohuak @silverpill @harblinger i believe this is how it works right now

@meso @silverpill @harblinger Cool, I haven’t tried chan-fe yet. I could give it a try sometime.
