Thunder
https://github.com/thunder-app/thunder
The killer feature for me is swipe gesture navigation. Most apps do not have that. If anything, they might have a “swipe in from the edge of the screen” gesture, but that is not the same as being able to swipe from any point onscreen to go back.
It also supports PieFed.

Um… I don’t think it does… but the friendica thing is pretty cool
Voyager, reminds me a bit of Apollo for Reddit and has a good webapp for desktop usage.
Replying to @deranger@sh.itjust.works
did you make voyager’s app for apple watch work? mines always crash at home feed
Boost mainly. Then I found it struggles getting posts in the “hot” feed so I’ll switch to Voyager for that.
Edit: I forgot to add why. I used boost for Reddit and I really like the UI. It’s very customizable.
Replying to @Bongles@lemmy.zip
I went from Android to iOS due to reasons and this is one of the few apps I truly miss. Voyager comes close, but I was willing to pay for Boost when I was using it for Reddit.
Replying to @Bongles@lemmy.zip
I’ve stuck with Boost for like…8 years now? It does everything I need it to so I stick with it.
Summit. Reminds me of Sync on Reddit 5 years ago
Replying to @Bell@lemmy.world
+1 for Summit!
It has been the best clean user experience for me so far
Replying to @Bell@lemmy.world
I’ve been on Summit forever now. Very active development, and they’ve added every feature request I’ve had along with many others’. I lose track of all the options it gets anymore.
It looks good, works good, and when it doesn’t, it gets fixed quickly.
I share lots of posts and articles and put them in quote blocks and just bring able to select all text and guy a single button that auto quotes all paragraphs won me over for good, and then multi-communities was the icing on the cake.
If you ever ask what app has feature X, it’s likely already in Summit.
I wonder why I had written it off months ago, because giving it another shot now, that app sure seems to suit all my needs. Perhaps I had just tried it out when it was very new and lacked many of the features that I wanted and could find in Thunder.
Replying to @SatyrSack@quokk.au
It went open source a bit ago if that may have been a sticking point.
Summit here too. I changed up some of the display settings so it feels like Relay for Reddit 😀
The things that got me to move from Voyager were that when images didn’t load first time, there was no way to re-try - Summit has that. And I don’t think Voyager handled drafts that well. Summit has drafts but I do wish there was a client that had drafts like Relay did, where if you come back to the same comment/post and hit reply it has your draft from where you left off on that comment/reply.
I use Summit because it has all the same features as Relay for Reddit, which was the best 3rd party reedit reader. Well, it still is, but now they have to pay disgusting Spaz.
Replying to @Bell@lemmy.world
what does summit give you over using a browser on lemmy on your phone?
Blorp.
It’s the only client I have found that loads all images, regardless of source. When I used voyager, about half of the images didn’t load.
loads all images, regardless of source
Is it certain websites that were the problem, or file formats, or something else?
Replying to @SatyrSack@quokk.au
Probably because of Anubis protection. When the whole “AI scrapes the internet over and over so servers get flooded to death” (effectively an unintended DDoS attack) thing got wild, several websites incl image hosts enabled Anubis, which somewhat works in a browser, but often not so great in apps. Possibly it’s the apps fault for [not] setting the correct headers or whatever.
Replying to @AzuraTheSpellkissed@lemmy.blahaj.zone
Interesting, thank you. I have some research to do. Any idea if you can mitigate this on the client side?
Replying to @TheFermentalist@reddthat.com
Unless you plan on joining the app’s development effort: no I don’t think you can.

Certain instances and some individual users
Phone, it’s connect or summit, depending on which phone. I like summit’s looks better on oled screens. Otherwise it’s connect
Jerboa.
I dunno, it was on F-Droid and it’s really simple and lightweight, like its namesake critter. I’m sure there’s some more full featured options out there. (Voyager’s gestures kept throwing me off I think lol)
But I don’t hear a lot of people talking about this one much! Wonder why…
Replying to @MonkeMischief@lemmy.today
It was the first one I used and I never bothered with anything else. It works great
(Voyager’s gestures kept throwing me off I think lol)
I disabled all gestures in Voyager. I also found them annoying.
Replying to @MonkeMischief@lemmy.today
It doesn’t have some basic search features which sucks but same
Replying to @MonkeMischief@lemmy.today
Can’t set a default sort for comments which is absolutely crazy. You have to resort every comment section you click into.
Summit
I went jerboa->sync->interstellar->summit
Every other one gave me a reason to switch, though I don’t remember why I left interstellar
Voyager. I’m not sure why. Never thought about trying others but now I’m curious.
Replying to @spiderhamster@midwest.social
Same, but Jerboa.
Blorp because it works fine and I liked the name.
I just type in the URL into phone browser and use it that way
A web browser. Why limit myself with an app, when Firefox can do anything I want?
If it’s a FOSS app with support for image caching, then it maybe a good thing for people who have slow connections or who want to save data.
Connect. First one I happened to try, it works well, gets good updates, and is Canadian
Replying to @cheat700000007@lemmy.world
I’m surprised at how little Connect love I see here.
I started with Jerboa and it just didn’t feel right. I tried Blorp and a couple of otherez but Connect just has the feel.and features.
Can I ask why anyone doesn’t use, like, a browser? What’s the benefit?
Replying to @Sickos@hexbear.net
Well, some use browser versions, those who don’t know English well or at all, translating pages

The browser doesn’t remember where I was in my feed when I go back from reading a post. It’s also slower
Firefox. I used jerboa for a while but it got confused one of the times the admins forgot to renew the domain or cert or something plus you have to remember all the names for the emotes.
The same one I use on my laptop, Firefox/lemmy-ui.
none.
no social media on my phone
I have Jerboa installed from F-Droid, but I use Firefox.
I use boost because it was what I used for reddit and it has a good swipe view.
Fuck apps, anything that can be done in a browser will be done in a browser for me

“Where’s my battery?”
Boost because it works.

Boost
+1 for Boost
Voyager, cause I like it the best. I tried a bunch.
I was using Sync for Lemmy until a week or two ago. It was nice and familiar because that was my reddit app of choice prior to api-gate, but for some reason it kept frequently erroring out and not showing posts or images. I switched to Voyager and so far it’s been pretty good
I was a sync user for many years on Reddit. Then also I paid for the subscription on Lemmy. The app stopped being updated so I left. It had been around a year at the time since anyone heard from the dev.
I haven’t checked back. What’s the latest? Still got the “LJ does this but he always comes back! He’s so great!!” crowd; or has everyone jumped ship?
Replying to @q@piefed.social
Honestly, I don’t know. The app had been really spotty for months, I didn’t check about updates or anything, I just jumped ship. If the maintainers abandoned it though, that would explain why it broke.
Replying to @beliquititious@lemmy.blahaj.zone
Because it’s garbage and I’m just too lazy to switch
Voyager.
I used “Reddit is Fun” for years on Reddit but when it came time to switch to Lemmy I picked Voyager (wefwef at the time) because the UI was the most similar. I tried many of the other popular apps and I was happy with most of them, but Voyager was (and is) my favorite.
It’s simple. Lots of text. Easy to use. Looks nice.
It’s one of Lemmy’s main advantages that the websites are light enough on resources to not need a client. Praise open source :)
I usually use the official Lemmy client in the browser, because it is minimalistic and fast on any device
Interstellar, because it's the only one that works with mbin
Blorp
Not sure why but I just find it so likable like RIF once was for Reddit!
Mlem. Open source and native application.
Blorp. It had the best name.
Jerboa
Heard that it was an app from a Lemmy dev.
Tried it and it was simple enough.
Voyager because Interstellar doesn’t work well for me.
Voyager because it was the first one I tried.
Replying to @roboaddy@aussie.zone
Same. I haven’t grown out of it and it’s doing literally everything I want it to.
Replying to @roboaddy@aussie.zone
Second for me but the one I’ve stuck with
Jerboa, I was using Eternity by Bazalansky (Eternity is Infinity for Reddit but for… Lemmy) but it hasn’t been updated continuously, and I already had Jerboa as backup app just in case and it’s from the lemmy devs so it’s (for me) guaranteed to keep up with lemmy development
Summit, it’s the closest replacement for Sync I’ve found.
the website, because it works the same as on my computer
Idk why, but i use voyager.
uazo/cromite on my phone and qutebrowser on my laptop
Used to be Memmy for Lemmy. That’s gone, so I’ve been using Arctic and the web.
This just inspired me to download the source code for Memmy for Lemmy. Whether I spend time updating it for personal use or not, at least I have it if I need it. Sorta like how I plan to keep a derivative of Pocket going if I decide Wallabag isn’t enough (also code available on github).
I have three Lemmy clients on my phone: Blorp, Summit and Voyager. However, I mostly use Voyager. I think it’s the best app for Lemmy that I’ve tried so far. It’s the one I’m most comfortable with.
Replying to @n0p1lls@lemmy.zip
what does it give you over using your browser to access lemmy on your phone?
Replying to @eldavi@lemmy.ml
On phones, I generally find the usability worse on a browser than on an app.
Replying to @n0p1lls@lemmy.zip
for most things – yes.
but lemmy is fully functional w/o the apps and why i ask this question – what am i missing by using a browser instead?
i’ve tried the apps myself and couldn’t find a reason to justify keeping it around since most of them keep my user password.
Eternity. I used Infinity for reddit and it’s the best UI and FOSS
Replying to @pineapplelover@lemmy.dbzer0.com
Is Eternity still maintained? On fdroid the last version is from 2 years ago.
I don’t think it is and it sucks because I’m so used to swipe to go back.
Replying to @iturnedintoanewt@lemmy.world
I don’t think it is, but it still works.
Replying to @pineapplelover@lemmy.dbzer0.com
Except a specific image format, I’m not sure which one. But on certain specific images, the whole app hangs for a couple of seconds, and then crashes.
Replying to @iturnedintoanewt@lemmy.world
Interesting, the app has never crashed for me.
I’ve been on Summit for a bit, but it doesn’t seem to have push notifications, or if it does I can’t make them work, so I’m thinking about switching back to Boost. I prefer the appearance of Summit, though.
Summit. It’s a little buggy sometimes but I really enjoy the ui.
Blorp. Don’t know why, just felt right at home with the UI and design.
Thunder. It was the first I found when leaving Reddit and it had been a good experience so I’ve not looked at other ones.
Summit. Chose at random
Im using voyager with peel that lets you run webapps as contained native apps.
I am using Hermit to create an app for lemmy
Eternity even though it’s no longer developed it has all the features I want that the others don’t have.
Voyager + Thunder - Don’t have comment navigation with volume buttons.
Summit - Can’t set it to show the content of the collapsed parent comment.
Jerboa - Can’t set a default comment sort, literally have to resort every time you click into comments.
Voyager, because I need a replacement for Reddit after they booted me (not saying why, just know it was complete horseshit), and I heard Lemmy was the next-best thing, and Voyager was the best-rated in the App Store.
