A great deal of work is being done by folks like @goto and @thisismissem to support a decentralized login experience in the browser that's on par with the closed-system status quo.

The fediverse can be a part of this by adopting the OAuth+FedCM (and eventually DIDs) pattern of open social web identities.

Mastodon is already on its way there with CIMD-support pending in Doorkeeper and the ActivityPub API Task Force has expressed interest in FedCM's IdP Registration API.

@silverpill added support for did:plc in APx (NomadPub), which paves the way for hybrid AP/AT instances.

I'd love to move my Mastodon account over to a fediverse instance that supports my open-social erlend.sh identity.
