A couple of decades ago, there was a billionaire who bought a couple extra supercars and had them destroyed by testing, so that his would be road-legal.

No, Waymos are Jaguar i-Pace (Indian owned), Ojai (Chinese Geely/Zeekr) and in the future also a version of Hyundai Ioniq (South Korea).

You would have to pay the 100% tarriff on a Chinese EV because you’d be “importing” it. You likely wouldn’t be able to register it in any state without proving the import duty had been paid.

And assuming you flew under the radar and somehow registered it without paying, the Feds would get access to the registration records and the CBP would eventually come after you.
