We built a full guide for Deltachat and put it at deltachat.wiki.

This is not the official Deltachat website. It is an unofficial community wiki written by TheMadOrg, released under GPLv3, so anyone can read it, copy it, fix it, and share it. We were tired of the useful knowledge living in forum threads, help pages, and scattered GitHub notes. If you already knew the project you could find it. If you were new, you got lost. The point of this wiki is to put the path in one place.

The guide has two forms. One is an ordinary website you open in a browser. The other is a Webxdc app that shows the same pages inside Deltachat itself. You send the file in a chat and the other person reads it there, with no browser and no need for the site. If the network dies, the guide is still in that conversation. We did not add that as decoration. We built it this way on purpose.

It has four languages from the first day: English, Persian, Russian, and Spanish. Persian is not an afterthought and not a machine dump. English is the source. If a fact is wrong we fix the English first and then carry the change to the other languages. If you can translate or improve a page, the repository is public and the door is open.

Here is what is inside today. It explains how Deltachat actually works: email underneath, a normal chat on top, no phone number, and you can still reach someone who has never installed the app. It covers installation on the usual systems, including F-Droid. It talks about privacy and security in plain language: where messages live, what a relay can see, and what it cannot. It also says clearly that this is not only a tool for the day the internet dies. It is for everyday chat, groups, files, calls, and mini-apps.

For people who want to build, it has Webxdc: small apps that stay inside the chat, with no store and no tracking, and they keep working offline after you receive them. It has bots. It has running your own server, both the usual Chatmail relay and Madmail, our single-binary fork of Maddy. One file is enough. It runs on a Raspberry Pi or a small VPS, for people who do not want to keep Postfix and Dovecot alive by hand.

We are not trying to replace the official documentation. We are trying to keep the path in one room, in more than one language, and in a file you can still open when the website is gone. If a page is missing, wrong, or weakly translated, bring it and we will fix it together.

Replying to @⁨abbas_dp@techhub.social⁩

@abbas_dp in the general features it says "You can message anyone with an email address, even if they don’t have Delta Chat. They receive your message as a normal email, and their reply appears in your chat." But this isn't really true anymore. If I go to add a contact it opens a qr code reader. There's no place to add someones email. And it also requires encrypted connection so wouldn't the whole conversation not be possible now
