@masukomi@connectified.com USA does have a pretty huge semiconductor manufacturing industry! Not on the cutting edge, but eg Texas Instruments has always made a lot. Has been given a big boost the last 5 years or so, both big political parties are itching to stomp China in a war, they have paid billions to companies (and done a lot of arm twisting) to move manufacturing back to US where its harder to bomb than Japan/Taiwan/South Korea/Israel. But also are finding it hard to find enough qualified workers or workers willing to work hard enough to compete with Asia.
