Lemmy is an opensource equivalent and has enough left-leaning people who left reddit. The main Lemmy developers are socialists/communists
At the same time, have heard of right wing Lemmy instances too, even ones which mimic reddit-style too.

Were the political discussions good and matching the topic of the communities? If so, it is better than many reddit subs that force arbitrary apolitical neutrality, right?

Reddit isn’t particularly left-leaning, it leans more liberal. Lemmy is definitely left-leaning, as it is developed primarily by Marxist-Leninists. As for bots on Reddit, it’s profitable.

Reddit is definitely centre right with some hard right groups. Have been banned multiple times for challenging racist rubbish, to be told that I don’t abide by community rules. Over the past two years, it would be difficult to speak up about Gaza or the rapid decline of the US. Been on Lemmy for a year now. I wouldn’t say it is left wing but neither have I seen the sort of rubbish that infests Reddit or X these days
