My parent scored a set of Britannica for $50 at a garage sale, they were only a couple of years old, ~1981 edition. My sister and I saw the books the next morning and almost screamed in excitement.
But for light entertainment it was Fowler's Modern English Usage.
@TallSimon I haven’t read Fowler‘s, but I have read Garner‘s modern American usage, which, of course, name checks Fowler a lot 🤓
