I actually did read the Big Soviet Encyclopaedia just out of curiosity when I was a kid. I still have two volumes standing on shelf because even thought it’s old and outdated on some things it’s a valuable information source.

@ZySoua I had a multitude of encyclopaedias back when I was a kid. Even the electronic one, and boy, did I love them.

"The Soviet Encyclopedic Dictionary" instead of Google, "The Encyclopedic Dictionary of the Young Technician/Chemist/Physicist" for popular science, "Brockhaus and Efron"—yes, a hundred volumes—on microfiche, plus a desktop projector included. And a 12-year collection of "Science and Life" magazines that my grandfather had been collecting in the attic, and I found them. That's what childhood was like ;-)
