celebrating the rollback of multiple stupid projects at work, including that stupid AI spyware agent, and an overly invasive DNS filtering client (which managed to bring down half the org over the weekend)

PiHole: open source, free, centrally managed, easy to bypass or override network-wide or on endpoints, low maintenance, no licensing, etc...
SomeOtherThingNotToBeNamed: ENTERPRISE! SMART! AI READY! expensive, digs its claws into every endpoint's network stack, completely breaks networking requiring a manual removal on every endpoint when the license expires...
guess which one my boss wanted.

This by the way was the reason my phone was exploding all weekend and the following Monday while I was on vacation. With me out, two admins had to call and walk dozens of people through a manual uninstall involving unique software GUIDs in the registry and the command line using LAPS in order to restore connectivity. I'm so glad I wasn't there that day. I had to turn my phone off to focus on driving home from Defcon.
