RE: noc.social/@todayilearned/1169

It's very sad. And of course it's not about health. Countries with rich #Wine and #Beer cultures are drifting towards stigmatizing #Alcohol as if it was something evil, albeit people were drinking alcohol for thousands and thousands years. Of course it can be damaging, but as I like to say, a kitchen knife can be used for cutting bread, but some people use it for evil things.

@menelion But alcohol does harm people in any case. There's no harmless or positive dosage of alcohol.

Of course if you're talking about burning it instead of drinking then that's another case...

And yes, I don't think that restrictions are better than education. I'd prefer people to make an educated (or informed) choice instead of having no choice at all.

It's just that I think that knife analogy is wrong if you're talking about drinking alcohol only. Otherwise drinking would be closer to killing (yourself at least) with a knife and using as a fuel or for cleaning closer to cooking.

Also,

people drinking for thousands of years

This is a bad argument. People were doing a lot of bad, wrong, harmful or damaging stuff for thousands of years.
