Booked an early gig at Trumbullplex and saved up cash for the touring band because matinees don't do well here and I still wanted to pay them. However.... everyone showed up, door made almost $500 so we could donate to Trumbull, people raged for the bands, brought their kids and ate all the vegan food I made (I've been doing this for years and it's the first time I didn't go home with a ton of food). Moral or the story is just keep doing what you're doing and it will eventually catch on.
