okay so i saw a video that claimed that you can get all of special relativity without fixing light speed

and it seems that's true.

and i know that you can get (presumably) all of QED via pilot wave stuff, which has no 'quantum weirdness' (except for non-locality, but nobody cared about that before einstein).

so is all the last hundred years of physics just people caring too much about single interpretations of much broader ideas?

@lain I think that's pretty close. Honestly, there's still a shit ton we don't know, and what makes it harder is we don't even know how to find out stuff, because it runs into the physical limits of what we can reliably detect and seems to break logic.
I have a really long and rambly chat log with Claude about stuff in this topic. Taught me a lot about the assumptions researchers have made and why. I don't think anyone is convinced these assumptions are true, they're just the most popular, but there is research into minority models.
