I totally respect Codeberg's decision to disallow projects with mostly AI-generated code - we should all be doing things the way we want, especially in open source. I am very thankful to Codeberg for hosting us until now, and I want to avoid github like the plague, so I will most probably set up a forgejo instance for Catodon (and a couple of other projects) in the coming days. Hopefully, this should also give our repo better uptime.

@panos I don't respect Codeberg's decision; AI is a crucial part of my life, and they're outright hostile towards it. I sympathize with the pain felt from poorly implemented crawlers, but they go ahead and lump that in with so much else nonsense.

@lnkr@staging3.plamenu.com seems to be company owned, which is not ideal to me, I like Codeberg's collective approach. But I will give it some thought, it doesn't look like a bad alternative apart from that, and it's forgejo... maybe , maybe. @TamsynUlthara

@TamsynUlthara yeah, I don't agree either, but Codeberg is a project ran by volunteers, and they can do what they want with it. I do think that this weakens the attempt to have an open source alternative to GitHub, a goal I agree with, and that's why I kept Catodon and a couple of other projects on Codeberg, even though the service is not always reliable. Oh well, there's always self-hosting - although I understand that many people don't want to maintain one more thing, so this will probably send more projects to GitHub.

They’ve been operating for about a year and might as well become the new codeberg minus the extreme stances, I’m planning to give them a go
