Grift aside, what does it mean for a laptop to have "AI features" or "enhancements"?

Grift aside. I’ve been honing my programming workflow with Ollama + opencode, and I’ve even used it to enhance my emacs workflow. I’m interested in what else is out there. Cutting through the advertising bullshit, what kinds of features do new “AI enabled” consumer electronics provide? Anything of note?

Edit: Alternative framing. What AI features have you used on a personal computer have you been impressed by?

It usually means that the laptop has a neural processing unit, which is a low-precision matrix multiplier useful for running neural networks.

When advertised by a laptop manufacturer, it usually means whatever Microsoft is currently shipping with Windows, which may run locally using the NPU, or may rely on Microsoft’s cloud services. Their brochure page lists “real-time translation, image generation, and intelligent search” as things it can do locally.
