Self-Host Weekly (11 September 2026)
selfh.st/weekly/2026-09-11/Replying to @theorychapter@sh.itjust.works
Self-Host Weekly is sponsored by Coder. AI coding agents run on your laptop with your credentials, your network access, and no record of what they touched. Coder is open source and gives every agent a self-hosted workspace you define in Terraform, so your code never leaves the machines you own.
Nasty. I thought this was satire at first and had to read it back.

Seriously. I had to read that five times to see if I was missing sarcasm. What a fucking awful product.

Can you help me understand why this is awful?

If you’re serious… Essentially their AI impersonates you with impunity and keeps no records of what it’s done. Its a fucking security nightmare at best.

I was reading this as the solution or safeguard against that problem.

I’m a dumbass and totally misread it. You’re right, it’s the solution, not the problem. I downvoted myself for being a moron.

You’re not a dumbass, it’s just poorly-written.

Good catch

From the newsletter:
no record of what they touched
From the site:
Centralized model access and policy-controlled environments with full observability and auditability across all AI usage.
We might have some wires crossed somewhere.
The first quote is a dig at their competitors. The second quote is a description of the solution their project provides.

I’m guessing the blurb was provided by coder and not written by the author. Like someone else said, it could’ve been worded better.

Coder has a credential proxy in the control plane. It makes it better since credentials never enter or leave the container.

Good to see Mullenweg gone, what a shitbird. And complaining he didn’t have time to have the resolution reviewed before the vote. Matt, that’s the exact sort of bullshit behaviour you would have committed if the shoe were on the other foot. So quit crying and go code or something.

Gone? On paid vacation for a short while, you mean… But perhaps it’s a sign from the board, that he should either get his shit together or he will be out for good at some point, hopefully.
Kinda crazy wordpress.org still links to his personal site in their footer.
Maybe someone should submit a PR to fix that.

I can only assume it’s because the project’s new leadership can’t count
This came across as a bit harsh. The blogpost explaining the new naming strategy seemed to make sense to me at the time. Did I miss something?

Cringe. I’m pretty sure they did not read a single line of the changelog.

This was obviously meant as a joke…
Sheesh are some overly-sensitive.
Yes it’s a bit crass but not overly.
Also in the newsletter
The Jellyfin team took a page from Microsoft’s playbook and skipped a major version number (v11) with the release of v12 this week (…)

I did not pick up on the joke, whoops :)

It has to be funny to be a joke, and this wasn’t funny. Seemed like a cheap shot from a Plex fanboi.

As always, comedy or humor is not universal.
Andyour opinion ain’t a universal thing. Because it’s your personal taste. And, well, your opinion.
I lightly exhaled at the quip. Not a knee slapper or anything.

huh?

aah.
I don’t think this is the case here, but now I wonder whether rewriting git history dates to be more spread out and go further back before uploading an AI slop project to github is a viable way to appear more legitimate.

I think its time to stop reading this newsletter. Remover the ai marker for projects, and now sponsored by AI. Hmmm.
