This is (almost) the raw version straight from the camera. Since I used a monochrome camera, the Sun obviously has no color.

I prefer the solar flares to appear brighter. Simply inverting the image would result in a white background, so I manually manipulate the histogram instead. Rather than inverting the brightest areas from black to white, they remain black, which creates this bright outer rim.

@zuthal This is due to the editing. The image was inverted to make certain features stand out. Really just an artistic choice because otherwise this would be a slightly blurry black and white image.

@corpsmoderne Thank you! Glad I did buy one. Unfortunately, the photos I took with my Fuji came out rather unspectacular

@tyzbit This was shot on a special solar telescope. It uses filters to make a different layer (chromosphere) visible. So instead of sun spots, you can see actual flares shot into space by the sun.

I’d been planning to get a shot of my hometown's landmark lined up with the sun, taken from a specific spot. Not only could I plan everything from a top-down view, but I could also preview it in 3D with my camera’s actual field of view.

What really impressed me: they even have detailed 3D models of buildings (and landmarks), making it incredibly easy to dial in the composition and line everything up exactly as I wanted.

@bzf @manetmusic Even if the code is not public, how about using Github/Codeberg just for issue tracking? Not sure if it's rather a solution for tech-savvy people. At least people would able to see if there's an open issue/feature request.

@Gottox Ach, nichts was `-ldflags=“-w -s”` und `upx` nicht lösen könnten.

Aber ganz davon ab, ist es schon irre, wie aus meiner 45 MB Binary 33 MB werden, nur weil ich paar Debug Infos rausziehe. UPX macht daraus auf der flottesten Stufe dann 13 MB.

Wie groß das gleiche Projekt nun wäre, wenn ich alles z. B. in C mit static Links geschrieben hätte: keine Ahnung. Und ob immer alles zwingend in einer einzelnen Binary sein muss, kann ich auch schlecht sagen.

Today I had the chance to take pictures of the sun while getting photo bombed by the ISS. Had two telescopes in place. Unfortunately, as you might ne able to see, there were some clouds. The white light filter resulted in a somewhat sharp image, but the solar scope is too blurry for my taste. Anyway, first try was a success.

@lukasrotermund Well, then you also have to replace your window manager which now accepts code generated via LLMs, your static website generator which is written using Claude, and you have to switch your Mastodon instance because Mastodon allows PRs that have been written by LLMs as well

@lukasrotermund I mean, it's not like you would look through every line of JS of a website you visit, right? I don't see an issue in at least accepting it on websites you trust.

@ironicbadger Personally I prefer your previous style. Colored box, text, the context you want to show or a normal looking face. Beside yourself on the thumbnail, it was easy to distinguish. Now it looks like most of my suggested videos / frontpage.

Maybe it's just me. Was just wondering why this style pops up in so many places right now

@ironicbadger hey Alex, what's up with the YouTube thumbnails lately? Is there some sort of new tool to style them easily, or is the algorithm preferring white / yellow bold text? Or is it just coincidence that I see similar looking thumbnails with big two colored texts for the past few weeks?
