What's something that 15 years ago looked like it would be a problem in the future, but didn't turn out to be?

Acidic rain.
I don’t remember any of the specifics anymore but it boils down to: Trees and plants died in masses, scientists and the general population got together and we changed what caused it.

We may have to go back to having it for a while though to put a break on climate change. For all the bad that acid rain caused, at least it cooled the world
