I've said it again, Mastodon is (finally) taking a truly user-friendly direction, and that can only be good. Not just for Mastodon, but for the whole Fediverse ecosystem.

Mastodon@Mastodon@mastodon.social

#Mastodon is getting a new look in our upcoming 5.0 release.

We wrote a bit more about our design process and how we approach community input. If you’re on mastodon.social you will see the new design tomorrow, on Tuesday. We rely on your feedback!

Perhaps I spoke too soon, because the comments I see from people that actually use it are mostly negative. The things I saw in their blog posts seem to be in the right direction. But I haven't tried it - I'm pretty happy with our UI and UX here on Catodon 😁

@julian@fietkau.social let's see, let's hope so! In any case, I think that @laurenshof@indieweb.social 's comment makes much sense: Mastodon's threading is... pretty bad https://indieweb.social/@laurenshof/117484159673301467

Indieweb.Social Laurens Hof (@laurenshof@indieweb.social)my only take on @Mastodon@mastodon.social 's redesign is that it is such a missed opportunity to not have done anything with threading in the replies. I've tried reading the comments on a popular post in the default interface (always use Phanpy or custom client normally) and holy shit, the way Mastodon sorts the replies are just so spectacularly bad, i literally don't understand whats going on
