we are trying to get a phone for one of our comrades in Iran. The amount we need is around $150. We do not want to buy a new phone. We do not want to feed consumerism, nor do we want to add more unnecessary harm to the earth. What we are looking for is a second-hand phone — something modest, usable, and capable of running a custom ROM like LineageOS, so it can remain useful, secure, and independent from as much corporate control as possible.
for many people, $150 may not sound like much. But for us in Iran, it is a lot. It can be more than what many workers earn in a month. The economic conditions here make even basic tools difficult to access, and because of sanctions, borders, and financial restrictions, we have almost no practical way to receive support except through cryptocurrency.
this is not about luxury. It is not about consumption. It is about access, communication, safety, and survival. It is about mutual aid comrades supporting one another across borders when local conditions make life unnecessarily hard.
If you are able to contribute, even a small amount would help. And if we receive the money, I will share the whole process transparently: the device we choose, how much it costs, how the money is used, and photos of the result. I want everything to be clear, honest, and full of care.
