I haven’t used other streaming boxes lately, but I find this hard to believe, mainly because of the shitty AppleTV remote with the godawful touchpad that everybody decided to implement different gestures for and which is notoriously difficult to gesture properly with and only when intended to
otherwise, I do agree that the AppleTV itself is quite polished. I use it for any streaming services that I may have, which is not many lately but was quite a few in the past, Plex, and YouTube primarily. also used to do some Zwift on it before I changed to using an iPad.
besides the absolutely horrible remote that for some reason doesn’t have actual buttons for arrows and confirm, the rest of the experience actually is quite good and generally anything that is not is to do with the apps themselves. for example, Sportsnet is just a fucking terrible app no matter what platform you’re on.
makes total sense short term. makes little sense long term.
it’s not just google
for the past year or so I’ve been telling people that DDG is so much better as it actually returns the results you’re looking for, which Google stopped doing. except in the past few months, the same thing is happening there now too.
I don’t know if it’s fuckery with the search engines, people gaming SEO, ads, or if it’s just the sheer quantity of shit that’s on the internet now, but it’s at least half of the time now that I go to search something and it’s not in the top half dozen results. and sometimes I can’t even find it at all, despite knowing that it definitely exists out there.
the two of you did not say exclusive things

yeah it’s where you coordinate with local groups and buy/sell things

just assume yes
google has been found keeping information on you that they explicitly said they wouldn’t. I can’t recall the specifics. but apply that to any megacorp like this

one of these days I’m going to spend a weekend going from dealership to dealership looking for a new car, and just wasting their time when I come across nonsense features like this
that Prius feature that beeps and distracts you from the road whenever you pull up to an intersection? that’s fucked up
those features that remind you to pay attention to the road because you have sunglasses on, and pull your attention away from the road to tell you that? that’s fucked up
the features that aggressively keep you in your lane when you drift to give room to an obstacle? that’s fucked up

I’m not offering an opinion on the matter, I’d just like to point out that taking pleasure in one does not exclude the ability to take pleasure in the other.

right, but once you find out, cut it off

I’ve had to pick a new car in the last year. I chose a 2012. fuck new cars. fuck their headlights. fuck their spying. fuck their complexity. fuck their non-ownership. fuck their cost. fuck their bloated sizes. fuck their blind spots. fuck their driver assistance that interferes with my control of the vehicle. fuck their touchscreens that are absolutely useless in sunlight.

nah, pretty simple. set the preferred settings in the menu in the vehicle, then have a fob button to activate it. flash the lights to signal acknowledgement, just like locking and unlocking.
although maybe don’t actually flash the lights, since everything is stupidly over bright LED now and it’s rude af to be using those unnecessarily

my 2008 is now a piece of shit and things keep breaking that I don’t bother to fix, but I’m considering keeping it alive even though I bought a 2012 to replace it. might want to start investigating that misfiring and why it’s eating oil…
after fixing most of the issues required to get the 2012 safetied, I’ve come to the conclusion that I got a bit scammed and the vehicle might have been partially flooded, so who knows what else might go wrong. every task I’ve started on it has had a hiccup, even just replacing the license plate light bulbs - the brackets the screws for the bulb cover going into disintegrated, so I had to remove the whole trim piece to replace those. since when do things like that rust out‽

meh, I disagree. I think using a percentage in that way implies a larger sample size

well, yeah
but I’d still rather drive somewhere than walk there if it’s really far and I have to make the trip

I guess this shows how out of touch I am because how the fuck is a peripheral auto installing software on my computer in the first place? how does Microsoft allow that?
Replying to @Mister_Hangman@lemmy.world
okay, so you’re just an asshole. you’d rather blind other drivers than have less but still sufficient light to see. that makes you an asshole.
