Paperback is far better than all of those, although it has no embedded voices.

Cool that we have so many apps now together with Voice Dream like Speech Central and this too!
Open source, politics
Recently I've read that the open source movement is political by definition. So to put it boldly, if you develop something open source, you are a communist, marxist, anarchist and whoever else.
Hell no.
I personally know at least one maintainer of a significant number of popular open source projects who is, to say the least, very far from those ideas politically (it's not me, I'm not so much in the open source recently, because lack of time).
So again: hell no.
#OpenSource #Politics
My impression: Someone is tuning the radio, and all of a sudden there is a station with lots of noise, but you definitely can hear that on the other side they are summoning a demon.
The wintalker (Rosasoft) demons came for my soul tonight. Warning: loud, volume down if you must listen. I warned you. I really tried. It's on you.
It's not "something something ableism". It's a tool that allows people to do what they weren't able to do before. distinguish items in the stores. Read menus in restaurants. Discern signs and other inscriptions. Get help from relatives or specialists with video calls instantly, positioning their head.
Okay, if you want to ban smart glasses, ban all cameras in smartphones first. I bet lots and lots and tons of videos were and are being taken with those right now. Yes, videos taken by those people you mentioned. so don't be hypocrite, everything or nothing. And to be honest, that desire to ban everything is really appalling. Ban kitchen knives, they are used by killers. Oh, and forks also, btw, they are dangerous as hell.
It's people's responsibility to observe laws, and it's the countries' responsibility to catch criminals.
You see a nasty person filming something he or she shouldn't? Get this person, fine, sue, whatever. but banning the whole technology because it can be used by criminals seems absurd to me.

I've been seeing this debate come up more frequently of late. My only question to those people who think that banning the Smart Glasses are anti-disabled or whatever. What do you think is the solution? There are maybe at most a couple thousand people with the resources and desire to use the smart glasses, per country possibly less. Compared to hundreds of thousands of able-body people who have the potential to use it negatively. Not to mention *all* of the META glasses coming attached with the Zuck-baggage. So, are we going to let such a potentially dangerous thing go unchecked just because something something ableism? Or are we going to actually provide a working solution?
controversial, NVDA addons
Do you know what this #NVDA addons development fever reminds me?
#NodeJS world. Developers will understand.
As we all know, Node has packages for everything: check that a number is positive. Check that a number is odd (separate packages!).
I don't know whether it's good or bad for NVDA (well, I do have a strong opinion about Node though).
Usually I don't quite agree with you, but this time you nailed it!
"But I could post four pictures in the time it takes me to write alt text for one!"
Yeah. I'm sure you could.
I could throw four pieces of garbage in the general direction of the trash can in the time it takes me to walk over and make sure one piece goes into it. But I care about what it's like to live in my house, so I take that time.
I hope adequate parents there will teach their kids how to use VPN.

Solidarity is great, but what about more anti-missiles?

@TheQuinbox My osh, it's a killer library, in the best sense of the word! Absolutely magnificent! Thank you so much for it!

@TheQuinbox BTW, is it true that Paperback supports Daisy Audio also? I saw some code related to it but didn't dig deeper.

@EncoreUneMarie Oké, dites-leur qu'ils sont putain de judophobes de merde. Je préfère dire que je suis un judophile plutôt que philosémite pour la même raison d'ailleurs.

@garo Of course, but I heard about lots of headaches admins have with Mastodon because it's very hard to maintain.

@garo I'm also thinking of moving to a dedicated instance, let's see. So far I'll be here but, as we say, the time will show.

». Ça m'a touché profondément.
