Recently there was a poll in the French-speaking community about political views of Mastodon users.
Results:
Total: 696 votes (not many, but quite representative for such a niche community).

Quod erat demonstrandum.
@gemlog, that's what I was talking about.

The other thing is what people regard as left and right in one country may not match people in another with whom your are chatting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left%E2%80%93right_political_spectrum?useskin=vector#Contemporary_terminology
I didn't feel like taking the test, but I found a random image of someone who did.

@gemlog @menelion I have done the test, ended up in the green quarter, but I'm still sceptical about the method. It wasn't my point anyway. I'm increasingly disgusted by the similarities of far left and far right positions, like the support for regimes like the IRGC or Putin, for terrorists (Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis) or the anisemitism they express more or less openly.

@menelion That's quite sad results.

@garo Exactly. Hence, you barely can speak about politics on this platform.

@menelion Yeah, it's quite sad and unfortunate. Once you say something that is not remotely supporting all the 67 rights the left want you to support, you're basically seen as if you killed people or something.

@garo Yes. And despite the widely advertised "decentralization" of the Fediverse, as soon as you disagree with them, they "fediblock" you then your instance. that said, it's super dangerous to open your mouth there because first, your whole instance will be banned, and second, you will be banned from people on other instances with whom you used to converse normally.

@FranceskaMann @garo I'm personally not far right, I'd say center-right. But yes, as soon as you don't agree with far-left ideology, you get problems. As you say in your profile, no human being is illegal, but as soon as you even *politely* discuss someone's views, you are in trouble.

Hi Andre, I block a lot of people. Maybe I'm too trigger-happy with the block button? Center right means different things depending on what country you're in. I'm American and the people on the right are doing their best to destroy our environment and the planet for everyone on it. I have strong feelings about this. I live in a red community. I spend time with people on the right attempt attempting to dissuade them from Trump. It's not easy.

@FranceskaMann @garo I'm a Ukrainian living in France, thanks for that info! Yes, Trump is (in my opinion!) the worst president the United States ever had, unfortunately. I've never even been to the US yet, but it literally hurts to see what he is doing to the country and to its reputation in the world. Many people hate all Americans because of him, and it also hurts because I love American culture, and often take Americans as examples to follow.

Yes, I saw a similar poll in English a few years ago; it had a similar result. People on the Fediverse are much more left-wing than the general public.
That said, I express my political views and don't get much hostility. Those who really dislike them probably don't follow me, and I try not to jump into other people's threads to tell them they're wrong.
Feels sometimes like I'm speaking to the void, though every now and then I have a post that a few people agree with.
