Why don't movie ratings just have letters indicating objectionable material?

LVNSD would be much more informative than “Rated R,” or, "PG-13."

  • L - Language
  • V - Violence
  • N - Nudity
  • S - Sex
  • D - Drug use
  • B - Blasphemy

Let’s include recommended age at the end, so theaters can know whom to exclude (legal reasons):

Family Guy LVNDB-18

Dexter’s Lab V-8

Looney Toons VD-8

Telly Tubbies 0

That’s where I got it. It’s a lot more direct. But the categories make absolutely no sense.

D, for example, is sexually suggestive speech. L is language. Why are they separate? Kids who can hear shit, hell, fuck, and damn, should be able to hear about Daddy opening Mom’s bra.

Or, sexual symbolism. You’ve got about 3 letters, in one rating that indicate varying degrees of sex, and no other objectionable content.
