one of the most insane projects I've ever seen: the madlads ported Linux to retro motorola phones

Neptune uClinux project by fkcoder | Siesta

following phones are supported:
Motorola C650, KRZR K1, KRZR K1s (prototype phones only), V635, SLVR L7e, SLVR L9 (prototype phones only), E398, ROKR E1, SLVR L6, SLVR L6i, RAZR V3, SLVR L7, RAZR V3i, V80

feature parity with original proprietary firmware

and just to remind you, _this_ is the hardware of E1/E398 and V3i:
```
Motorola E398/ROKR E1 | Geek Info
SoC: Neptune LTE, PowerIC: PCAPII
MCU: ARMv4, ARM7TDMI-S @ 52 MHz => 97.5 MHz (overclock)
DSP: M56K, S-OnyxU 56600S @ 104 MHz
IRAM: 256K, IROM: 1792K, RAM: 8M, ROM: 32M
GPU: ATI Imageon W2250, VRAM: 192K
Motorola RAZR V3i | Geek Info
SoC: Neptune LTE2, PowerIC: AtlasUL (AUL)
MCU: ARMv4, ARM7TDMI-S @ 52 MHz => 91 MHz (overclock)
DSP: M56K, S-OnyxU 56600S @ 104 MHz
IRAM: 512K, IROM: 128K, RAM: 8M, ROM: 48M
GPU: ATI Imageon W2262, VRAM: 384K + 2M
```

There are photos and footage in @motofan_ru telegram group. Also this is their project roadmap: https://t.me/motofan_ru/1100646/1370085

@a1ba my dad still has his Razr V3 that I also used as my first phone. The battery is shot but I wonder if I could get this going. Insane someone got Linux running on the phone. Too bad the wireless technology (I'd imagine it's 2G) is so old that there's likely no potential for in the future to get these old phones fully working again under Linux with telecommunications

@captainarcee yeah, even if there are old base stations that are still working in your area, I wouldn't expect that it would be so easy as putting a new sim card into old device and expecting it to work. Plus I heard they don't have GSM stack yet but other than that it pretty much already does what these phones are capable of.

If you want to try it, better join the telegram group, as none of the devs of it present on fedi. I'm just reposting their stuff here.
