If wonder if they will just fill it with non-printable unicode characters. It would be the easiest to implement, and fairly effective for most casual users.
Sure it’s trivial to make a tool to strip the text of those characters. But someone would have to be dedicated to cheating to bother.

I’d bet on massive reduction in disposable income.
Patreon is based on the idea that most people have some amount of money, relatively small from own perspective, that they’re willing to give away in hopes of getting more content from their favorite creators.
Anecdotal evidence: 5 years ago I was spending about 100€ per month on Patreon. These days I’m down to 15€.
Now, I’m just one person, not necessarily representative of a trend. But I have a feeling it’s a trend.
