@riverpunk And you don't need to! Unless you're a software freak who's out to try everything under the Sun or do it professionally, you don't need to manage your software all that often really. You install it, it works, you update it, end of story.

@drq good news for you then: all package management logic of pacman had already been abstracted away behind libalpm. Pacman is just a frontend here, you can write your own one
