that’s a gambel’s quail! they lack white scale-like patterns on the lower belly and black speckling on the back of their neck, which california quail have :] they’re so adorable, especially the little sounds they make while eating…

gambel’s quail have a far smaller range compared to california quail, according to the maps i’m seeing online fascinating how their habitats hardly overlap at all

near me there's a nature reserve where i've seen families of California quails walking between the bushes! they are soooo cute and adorable i love them (and yes you can be invited if you want c:)
