Open-source is a stretch. Open weights are more like blobs. They run and can be used openly, but it’s not as though you can build it yourself. No way to know how it was trained or if the training was manipulated by various interests.

Well you can build models yourself, but definitely not the ones they are using. Those you can modify, but thats about it, as you said.
