In #Seattle for a bit - and yesterday I made it to '#waspHeaven' in #VolunteerPark (middle path around the water tower) to see if there were any wasps around. There certainly were!

Grass-carrying wasp, Isodontia elegans, collecting a blade of grass...

Slender, thread-waisted wasp - black and red with a golden yellow fuzz - intently chewing through a bent-over, drying grass stem, carefully grasping either side with daintily clawed feet.

Same wasp, looking away from camera, putting some effort into the grass collection - glossy red-brown transparent wings outstretched, rearmost feet curled around the grass stem,.

Same wasp, grass stem completely chewed through - all weight supported by middle legs holding on to the near-upright remaining grass stem, while jaws and other legs hold on to the newly detached section.

Wings and wasp a blur - rising upwards, grass stem payload firmly grasped.
