I fail to see a downside.

I have/had ADHD and when they allowed phones/pdas with notes and reminder apps for the first time, i finally started remembering what was assigned for homework. paper planners simply didn’t work for me.

So you get a permissions slip to say you can use one.
They cause far more upset and disturbance both in lessons and at break/lunch to allow their unregulated use.
The fallout for fights staged for snapchat is far more time consumng for staff than administering/policing special cases.

i agree about phones being a terrible idea to allow in schools in (current year).
But also you know teachers are just going to say “no” to a student asking for a permissions slip. Some of my teachers were not lax about phone usage, and those tended to be the classes where I consistently forgot what homework was due. Partial exceptions are only partially useful.

you don’t request the permission from the teacher though. It’s a school policy and a teacher likely cannot overrule it anyway. you request the permission from the principal or the school psychologist, or whoever deals with kids special needs.
