What is something that an industry or many companies do that is counterproductive to their target audience?

For example, hearing aid / hearing loss companies call patients. It’s counterproductive because the patients are the ones who have trouble hearing.

Advertising. I’ll have been thinking about something I want to buy, but then the product or retailer shoves their shit in front of me with advertisements and I’ll give up on it out of principle.
