i'm going to let you in on a secret: part of the reason why i post, in my opinion, useful and insightful takes on things i know deeply about, is to keep treehouse's blocklist primed 🙃

so, you know, when you reply telling me i am an AI lackey and i should kill myself, i just go and report you to your instance admin and bonk the suspend button. no chance of appeal.

anyway, the reason why i am not moved by the moral argument around copyright and GenAI is very simple: generally, the GenAI companies have infinity times more money than the artists they are ripping off.
which means making a copyright claim against a GenAI company is both expensive and unlikely to succeed unless you can afford the same lawyers they have
welcome to the US legal system: whoever has the most money tends to win civil litigation

@ariadne ultimately, the copyright Thing with genAI illustrates a simple truth: the law is meant to constrain _us_, not _them_
