if the failure rate is 50%, you need twice as many candidates to fill the jobs. more so if it’s higher.

we also desperately need more medical staff, but nobody is scrambling to hire young men for nursing and other non-doctor medical roles. they are still predominantly marketed for women

like 3/4s of the USA population plays video games these days.

but we assume here it’s ‘young men who play CoD/madden religiously’. I doubt many of these hires were 40+, or women.

because bluesky wants to be a walled garden. they still operate under the same metrics as every other social media platform because their value comes from keeping you on the platform as much and as long as possible and tracking everything you do on it. they can’t do that if you aren’t logged in and views from external users aren’t as valuable as logged in users.

mastodon doesn’t care about any of that. it works off the principles of the open internet.

without a plan there is nothing to vote for. why would anyone vote for the status quo that the left/liberals so viciously defend?

I’ve been left-wing I feel like for 25 years, but the entire time I left the politics was moving away from me. As much as the right parodies the left as being elitist and out of touch and delusional… it’s like the left now actively embraces that vision of themselves and actively pursues it.

also why people basically fall in love with AI, because it spouts nothing but bullshit at them and they eat it up like candy because being fed back bullshit is a dopamine hit.

interacting with real people doesn’t supply endless dopamine and they might not tell you what you want to hear.

if you were in a rich one you had great books and great teacher and tons of supplies.

the key to american education is to have parents who have a lot of money and put you in private school, or can afford a town with million dollar homes where the public school is excellent,

simple don’t be born to a poor family and you won’t have a shitty education, and if you have to be born poor, at least do so in a major city where you can get into an exam school. major city exam schools are frequently rated as the best schools in the country, on par with the richest suburban school districts.

Everyone wants a cheatcode at life. But there is no cheatcode for learning things. You have to do the hard work, which is hours and hours of boring repetitive stuff. That’s how your brain works and improves and retains information, from repetitive exposure. That’s why living in a foreign country massively accelerates your language skill, because you’re constantly exposed to the language intead of working in an isolated way for like 30m each day.

It’s hilarious that people agree with the 10,000 hour rule for learning guitar or something, but magically think that rule shouldn’t apply to school work. You know what it also applies to, physical fitness. Nobody can cheat at getting faster or stronger without doing hours and hours of hard training, and nobody thinks it’s problem for kids to spend 20 hours a week at football practice… but god forbid we think students should need to study 20 hours a week…

Like we know what works. Americans, teachers and students both, are just pathologically lazy and want to shortcut and cheatcode everything. Meanwhile the students who are learning and successful put in the time and the effort. And of course everyone else resents those kids and mocks them as losers.

Even my own nephew spent a good chuck of his graduation mocking and deriding the top performing kids as losers with no lives, meanwhile he’s a B+ student who spends 30 hours week paying video games and whining how he isn’t a better student and life isn’t fair… and if you try to point out to him that being a A student would require less video games and more studying, he gets angry and tells you he wants to have ‘have fun’. OK buddy, you made your choice then, and you got your results. He is under the delusion he’s B+ average should have gotten him into MIT or something because he is ‘cooler’ than the kids who studied way harder.

Typical American entitled attitude. I’m sure he will make a great CEO someday.

or kids need to stop expecting learning to be easy and entertaining…

and do the work required if they want to learn.

because that’s what adult life is like, learning and working doing difficult shit all day. not being entertained.
