It isn’t about looking “tough” or “cool”. It is about not sticking out like a sore thumb.
Most cars in the US are civics, mid size trucks, and family vehicles.
That thing looks like it came out of a gumball machine.

Most cars in the US look like the driver has to heavily compensate for something. Why else would they drive cars excessively dangerous to others, excessively expensive for what they deliver and with excessively bad usage of space? But some are worried that their car could look too much fun or be too efficient and affordable.
