The leading candidates so far are Openmeet, Heylo, and Luma. Of these three, only Openmeet is open source, and positioned as an explicit alternative to Openmeet. It is based on the #ATproto, though, not on #ActivityPub.
Now that #Meetup is going all in on dark patterns, with #BendingSpoons having rewritten its mobile app to cram people into extra groups and pitch them unnecessary paid subscriptions, I’m looking to move a 500+ person group off. What do others use for free social group event organizing?
