3D modelling has nothing to do with prompts and tuning models. The output is objectively garbage to anyone with even passing knowledge of the subject.

Just like with anything machine generated, it’s always really capable and will completely dominate the market, but only to the layperson who has no fucking clue what they’re talking about.

The goal is to ensure that they don’t inbreed their models, not fix the problems they’ve caused.

I’d wager these produce less oxygen in part due to the glowing aspect. Photosynthesis is mostly only active during the day when there’s enough photo to help synthesise carbon dioxide into oxygen, glucose, and starch. During the night plants switch over to cellular respiration where they take their stored energy (glucose), and burn it, converting oxygen to carbon dioxide and water.

I’m guessing producing the light will require some amount of energy so the general net gain/loss in terms of oxygen is probably affected. On a global, or even national scale I don’t think the oxygen production of deocrative plants in cities will matter much.

The E in ELRC stands for enhanced. It has karaoke-style granularity, if that’s something you care for, and can find.

Navidrome has supported lyrics for a while now, but the web client only supports embedded ones. Checked my instance and that still seems to be the case as most of my songs have lyrics as standalone files, but the client insists that there aren’t any lyrics.

With the update I’ve added this Navidrome lyrics plugin, but I’ve not really tested it yet. I’ve been using lrcget to locate and add lyrics before this update.

Lyrics work fine in other clients. On my phone I’ve been experimenting with NaviBeat, otherwise I’ve been using Amperfy.

On desktop I’ve been using Nocturne, (via flathub), but I think based on how long lyrics take to load in that, that it fetches the lyrics from somewhere other than Navidrome.

Exactly, it’s built on systemic violence, in that when you don’t have a job you’re rendered more or less useless to society and left to wither by the wayside. Thus it is in the individuals immediate best interest to keep working with, thus enforcing these systems.

I live in Sweden. I grew up a povvo bitch, but I’ve managed to do well for myself over the years. Even so, I don’t have anything to fall back on. If I lost my job I’d luckily have unemployment, through my union and various labour rights, but that too has a limit.

I get why people wouldn’t want to fight back, which is what leads to doomerism and wishes to just burn the entire system to the ground in the hopes of building something better next time. Which I get too, I feel that all the time; improvement seems unlikely given the perpetual decline I’ve witnessed my entire life. Even so, I contact politicians, and I engage with my union.

I don’t know that that’s a bad thing. If you use these models, you are complicit; you’re part of creating the “need” for these models. You don’t necessarily have a choice (because realistically losing your job and all the stuff that entails isn’t a real choice, and that’s fully part of how the system is intended to work), but you’re still complicit.

We as individuals don’t have a lot of power, because power is mostly tied to some kind of capital. That’s why working together is so important, because it’s only by working together we’ll have any real power to impact things.

I don’t think being upset is a bad thing. Recognise it, and do something about it. It could be something small like talking to colleagues about it, or contacting a union representative, or a politician. Or go big, no shame in that either.

My only question is like, why does it have Audible’s colour scheme? Particularly some of the icons make it really look like Audible.

The market is speculative, a value isn’t in what a company produces, but in the investments people make in it because of the potential of future profits. It’s why a company can produce absolutely nothing of value at all and still be valued highly, see Theranos. This means that if you can sell an idea hard enough, you can get a lot of investors to give you money, which is fantastic for you up until the point the checks are due and you have nothing to show for it.

Scam Altman has come with so many lofty goals, general intelligences, 100 billion in profit by 2030, which is rich for a company that’s not pushing even a dollar in profit. Where are they going to scrounge up 100 billion in 3½ years?

So how convenient isn’t it then, if they had a secret model that they’re testing, suddenly go rogue in the exact kind of scenario that AI safety researchers have been talking about for well over a decade at this point? Truly, for AI to have advanced this much, and manage to circumvent even the safeguards that OpenAI, a company founded on the very tenet of AI safety and openness have placed on it? This model must be worth all that money! They’re getting somewhere!

Only, how would such a thing even happen? OpenAI is after all one of the global leaders of AI research. You’re saying that they, despite all of their knowledge in AI safety, test their models on hardware that isn’t airgapped? Or did the model somehow physically project into the real world and hook itself up to the internet? Or was it able to vibrate the atoms around it in a way to connect to WiFi despite the hardware it was running on not having a wireless card?

Surely a company of such renown wouldn’t be so stupid.

It’s a marketing ploy. It’s an incredibly dumb marketing ploy, but they saw that it worked for Anthropic with their nothingburger “too dangerous to release” model, so they orchestrated something similar.
