Tomorrow comes.

I post popular science news and memes that I find interesting. I also write about work, video games, and life. Currently interested in Open Science and Citizen Science.

Always remember: we need to be kind, especially when we don't know what's going on.

@shuro@friends.deko.cloud имхо.

Archaeological work in 2026 has changed the dating of two medieval fortifications at Balchug, in modern Galich. Researchers found no evidence for a pre-Mongol fortress at the Lower Hillfort. The Lower and Upper Hillforts form one of the most notable defense sites in northeastern Rus. Their unusual layout links two fortifications from different periods into one system. Much of the old landscape also survives, with later building affecting only the northwestern floodplain and the foot of Balchug. — Open image attachment ⁨1⁩ of ⁨1⁩

This is my watercolor painting named Dark Roads.
#art #skull #drawing #dark

A delicate watercolor and ink illustration of a human skull and upper spine in profile, filled with a translucent underwater world. Sharks swim through the jaw and neck among tiny aquatic details and orange fish. The top of the skull opens into a pale green landscape beneath a clear, dome-like sky, where an orange kite floats freely. Soft turquoise and green washes and fine pencil-like outlines create a peaceful, dreamlike atmosphere. — Open image attachment ⁨1⁩ of ⁨1⁩

M74: A Grand Design Spiral
Image Credit: NASA, ESA, and the Hubble Heritage (STScI / AURA)- ESA / Hubble Collaboration
Acknowledgment: R. Chandar (U. Toledo) & J. Miller (U. Michigan)

Explanation: If not the most grand, then this spiral galaxy is at least one of the most photogenic. An island universe of about 100 billion stars, 32 million light-years away toward the constellation Pisces, M74 presents a gorgeous face-on view. Classified as an Sc galaxy, the grand design of M74's graceful spiral arms are traced by bright blue star clusters and dark cosmic dust lanes. Constructed from archival images, this sharp composite is from the Hubble Space Telescope. Spanning about 30,000 light-years across the face of M74, it includes exposures recording emission from hydrogen atoms, highlighting the reddish glow of the galaxy's large star-forming regions.

A Plane Lunar Eclipse

Explanation: Did you need to be on the right side of this airplane to see this eclipse? No. Lunar eclipses are routinely seen from the half of the Earth facing the Moon when the eclipse occurs, making them some of the most commonly witnessed astronomical events. You don't even need any special equipment to see one -- just your unaided eyes. Lunar eclipses are also some of the most photographed astronomical events because, unlike with a solar eclipse, your eyes and camera do not have to look toward the bright Sun. However, considering the featured image taken last week from Portugal, if you were on the left side of that airplane during takeoff, you might have trouble seeing it -- at first. But even then, after takeoff, since lunar eclipses typically last for hours, you might soon be able to safely cross the aisle(s) to see it.

False Claims Act — FCA) против издательств Elsevier, Springer Nature, Wiley и Informa.
