Don’t forget the flexi-snakes. So many flexi-snakes. Fidget toys still seem pretty popular after all these years too.

Since I’ve been Windows free for several decades now, I will hard agree with you that running your favorite distro is the Way^tm^ But I like I said, I’m under no illusions that my old hardware has a life span. Like me, someday it’s going to die and not even running Arch can fix it. And if there are no old affordable parts or whole computers, what then?

That’s the kind of bridge you need to plan on crossing long before you get there.

It’s like driving a big truck. You get to the bridge and the sign says 5 ton(ne) weight limit and you’re driving a 40 ton(ne) truck. And there is a line of cars behind you that stretches to the horizon. You can’t turn around now. What are you going to do?

Old hardware is old. It will die eventually, and at some point there will be no more old hardware. Then what?

Look at the long game. Installing a Linux distro is great. But what happens when your GPU/CPU/SSD dies and you can’t afford or buy replacements?

They got more time and can afford to wait us out.

I don’t. If they can’t read or spell, fuck 'em. I have no interest in talking to stupid people. Nor am I interested in stupid people that have no interest in continuing to learn and try new things. There are a surprising number of adults that refuse to do so.

Even that doesn’t always work. There is one channel I know of that got auto banned despite using live shots of everyone doing live introductions of their stories.

That’s the allure for me. I can choose to buy what I can afford and then at a later date add other options myself as I want them or need them. But the range is an issue for me as a rural person where a trip to a clinic is 100 mile round trip. And if I need more, then it becomes a 200+ mile trip.

All BMWs need to be retrofitted with forced ads.

That’s the cool thing about knowledge. We learn new things all the time. 70 years from now, things we think are true today will be laughed at as ignorant and naive.

Like an old Sears catalogs, old encyclopedias are fun snap shots into the past and worth the read.

But unless you understand the electrical components and the rules and codes in their use for consumer safety, maybe, just maybe, it should be a little bit difficult to gain access to if your 10 years old.

Go buy some bloody tools and quit your whinging.

That’s the thing about repairing things at home or anywhere else. You need tools to do so and more than just a screwdriver and a pair of pliers. You often special tools. You can get a set of triangle bits for maybe 4 to 5 euros and you will have them for life. So don’t be a cheap. Either fix that kettle yourself, pay someone with the skills and tools to fix it, or buy a new one. But don’t whinge about not having tools.

And let’s also be honest. Some things need to be tamper proof. Most of you ain’t smart enough and experienced enough to play with things that can injure/kill you or others, no matter how many youtube videos you watch.

Because not everything can be repairable. Design and manufacture often require choices to be made. And you seldom get all of the things you want.

I don’t think BMW drivers ever paid for that add-on.

Hah! No! I generally drive a 16 year old Jeep Patriot and a 15 year old Dodge Hemi when I need to pull my 24,000lbs tandem trailer.

Everything has its time in the sun. Just like many before. They get born, grow, mature, get old, and then finally die. It will happen here too. I’ve seen more than one forum go through the process.

They should know a little bit about coding. Not to become Devs, but just so they have an understanding of what it is and about how it makes the world work.
