@wakest @wakest great idea actually! It does come with some risks of abuse and flooding the instance's custom emojis selector to the point that some clients will struggle to load it, but there is a bunch of approaches to play around with that can help mitigating it I think.
Like, let's say users have some limits for their own custom emojis (I dunno, max 50 for example), can borrow the emojis from each other, and moderators can promote popular or requested emojis into instance-wide ones that would be available for everyone by default and will not count toward the user limits. Or something like that. Might even accidentally grow into some kind of trending/cultural mechanism that would be way funnier than just gating the entire thing behind the mod permissions
