That poor rural communities should subsidize data centers’ water and electrical consumption so that random websites can be cheaper to maintain is a weird argument but okay.

Data centers are currently unregulated, inefficient, ecologically destructive resource pits parasitical on poor communities. That’s the problem. A simple solution would be to sell them water and electricity at 1000x the cost per gallon of a regular household. If that doesn’t encourage innovation, just require data centers to purify wastewater and generate their own clean energy! Problem solved.

Or even better, imagine a world where data centers had to, for example, purify wastewater and generate their own clean energy!

Data centers are currently unregulated, inefficient, ecologically destructive resource pits parasitical on poor townships. That’s the problem. They should be purchasing water and electricity at 1000x the cost per gallon as a regular household.

Now Imagine a world where data centers had to, for example, purify wastewater and generate their own clean energy. Why, then I’d be all for them!

So, poor rural communities should subsidize data centers’ water and electrical consumption or else random websites would be more expensive to maintain is a weird argument but okay.

You’re missing the point.

This is like saying anyone against Big Oil doesn’t understand that cars need gasoline. You’re missing the point.

Data centers are currently unregulated, inefficient, ecologically destructive resource pits parasitical on local townships. That’s the problem, not their mere existence. They’re a blight that needs to be regulated.

Data centers are unregulated, inefficient, ecologically destructive resource pits parasitical on local townships. They’re a blight that needs to be heavily regulated. Anyone who is not against them is simply insulated from the externalities of their cancerous existence.

Now Imagine a world where data centers had to use (and purify) wastewater and generate their own clean energy. Why, then I’d be all for them!
