The modlog itself isn’t the problem. A public modlog combined with effectively no simple straightforward appeals process is the problem.
A moderator can ban you, put a reason in the public record, and there is no built-in independent process to challenge it, present evidence, or have the decision reviewed. That entry can then be seen by the next moderator, who may treat the previous ban as evidence that you’re a problem.
So the reality is pretty brutal:
Ban → public record → no meaningful appeal → next moderator sees the ban → increased chance of another ban.
Transparency is good. An irreversible public accusation with no real mechanism to dispute it is not.
