sure, in a hypothetical world where we would have UBI, and data-centers were nice instead of being gas-turbine-powered noise-polluters consuming incredible amounts drinkable water, electricity and RAM to such an extend that major NGOs call for a ban because of how it destroys climate and is incompatible with human rights(1); yes, in a hypothetical world where the generative AI provide benefitial medical advice instead of manipulating people to killing themselves (2); indeed in our hypothetical world where LLMs would produce useful science instead of hallucinated nonsense that it actually makes(3); sure, in that hypothetical world more generative AI would be just great.

proponents of rifles would say the main purpose of them defence, security, autonomy, or perhaps recreation or sport.

anyway, i was going to do the analogy of the mass-killing of pigs in gas chambers to produce hotdogs, because arguably the main purpose of that is taste — and like generative AI it is extremely environmentally destructive.

but i figured if your approach to generative AI is between inevitabilist resignation and scolding the opposition for its »hysteria,« then i have no reason to assume it would be any different for slaughterhouses.

generative AI is just a tool.
hotdogs are just food.
who cares, right?
