I think the English terms “virtual” and “artificial” both suffer from the implication that the thing being described is “not real”, as opposed to “human-made” or “abiological” or “machine” intelligence. It is real intelligence – not as generalized as human intelligence, but it can detect patterns, make predictions, and use tools to modify its environment, which is arguably what people mean by “intelligence”.

I think the English terms “virtual” and “artificial” both suffer from the implication that they mean “not real”, as opposed to “human-made” or “abiological”. It is real intelligence – not the same kind as human intelligence, but it can detect patterns, make predictions, and use tools to modify its environment, which is arguably what people mean by “intelligence”. The best species-agnostic word I can think of is “synthetic”, but that’s still not quite right. Maybe other languages have better words.
