For the battery on the Comet, we use a push connector instead of soldered/glued battery.
Specs:
- 4100mAh capacity
- 4A discharge current (high performance)
- Standard 3-pin connector
- Push connector for easy replacement/alternatives
- No special tools required

@mechasystems I think you are one step away from designing a real Linux smartphone like Librem 5, but at an affordable price. I would love for this to happen soon. I wish to Comet success too!

If you're building:
- Mobile field diagnostic tools → LTE for remote access
- Off-grid communication devices → LoRa for mesh
- Regional deployments → Bring modems with local band support
- Industrial monitoring → Cellular connectivity + edge processing
The M.2 expansion slot on the Comet enables LTE, LoRa, WiFi, NVMe expansion for mobile field diagnostic tools, off-grid communication devices or even industrial monitoring!

@shoaibmerchant @milas @jfred @mechasystems awesome to hear! and thanks for your reply, really psyched to see the comet come out. (hello btw from a fellow oshw project https://mnt.re)
A 10-layer PCB with 900 components into a pocket-sized device. Port placement on Comet wasn't arbitrary.
Each is positioned for:
- Physical balance
- Thermal management
- Usage ergonomics
- Manufacturing feasibility

Left side: USB 3.0 + 2.0 Type-C, mini HDMI, 3.5mm audio (yes, we kept it)
Bottom: Dedicated USB-C for PD in/out + OTG mode (enables docking solutions)
Expandable: 40 pogo pins exposing USB 2.0, GPIO, ADC, PWM, I2C, UART, SPI, I2S, RTC, reset control, and extension detection

For developers: Debug console pins (we built them in because we needed them during development) and JTAG access (for those who need it)
Comet has three hardware kill switches - WiFi, camera, microphone. They don't just toggle a software flag. They physically cut power at the circuit level.
What if one device held infinite possibilities?
The Mecha Comet is modular, extensible and ready to adapt to whatever you can think up. Also, 100% open-source!
If you missed our KS campaign, we're now accepting late pledges. We ship in September, 2026.
